Help:Using MixesDB data
Building a music app, research tool or personal project with MixesDB data? Please follow the applicable Creative Commons license and access the data considerately so the site stays available for everyone.
Respect the license
Community tracklists are available under the Creative Commons license described in our licensing agreement. Check that page and any notices attached to the material you use, and follow the applicable license terms.
This page explains our recommended access practices; it does not replace or change the license.
Use the API
Please use the APIs rather than scraping rendered mix pages. Start with the MediaWiki API documentation, which includes links to examples and usage guidelines.
Fetch only what you need, cache results and avoid repeatedly downloading unchanged data. Keep request rates and concurrency low, and back off when requests are rate-limited or the service is struggling. For larger collections or recurring bulk jobs, talk to us on Discord about a suitable approach.
Keep requests easy to identify
Use a small, consistent set of IP addresses. Please do not hide requests behind rotating residential proxies or spread traffic across many IPs to get around protections. Being able to identify a project's traffic helps us investigate performance impacts and distinguish it from bot attacks.
We work to keep MixesDB available despite frequent bot traffic. Please be considerate and do not hammer the service or bypass its protections.
Join the community
Join the MixesDB Discord for questions about accessing data and coordinating larger jobs. You are also welcome to share what you are building, if you would like to.
