MixesDB:Release status

Welcome to MixesDB

With the shutdown of MixesDB due to legacy code, I've worked with MixesDB to get this new wiki up and running on new hardware and the latest version of MediaWiki in a way we can future proof it.

As was described on the old shutdown page at MixesDB, this is no easy transition. Hard choices have had to be made and some things may not work the same as they did.

Update October 12th 

Comments are enabled again and all old mixesdb comments have been restored! We've managed to recover all the old the comments from the previous site and we've now turned on commenting on all mix pages! If you scroll down you'll be able to see the "Add Comment" button.

Users not logged in will need to provide a username. Anonymous comments have certain limits on what urls they can post to prevent spam and bots. For example you can post links to common external sites we use like SoundCloud and Mixcloud, but unknown sites may be restricted. If you have a valid link you'd like to post, you'll need to create a free user account on the site.

Also, rewriting of the userscripts one by one has started. First off is TrackID.net. On Discord we discussed which websites should be supported in the future. Not all old scripts will be rewritten. The old Pimps scripts ("by MixesDB") will no longer work after rewriting has finished.

Update August 14th 

The watchlist migration tool is now ready! You can migrate all of your old watched mixes, categories and other pages.

Here's how to do it:

1. On this page you can enter your old MixesDB user name and it will list the old pages you used to watch. Copy all the page names that are listed.
2. Paste them on Special:EditWatchlist/raw.
   It doesn't matter if you have already newly watched pages there or even possible duplicates or in which order you add them.
3. Repeat for the next 100 pages if you have pagination in step 1.

This was possible by matching the page titles from the old database to the new database. No user information was transferred.

Update August 4th 

Search: The Search form was fixed to look better. It also got a tab "Default" (includes the most relevant namespaces) and a new tab "Categories".
Also the category search is back to search directly within a category:

Spam protection was improved. Please post on Discord if you find new spam pages or edits.

User:WikiBot was created to run mass text replacements.

Update July 23rd 

The hotness stars were fixed so it's updating new pages regulary. The Hottest mixes tab on Main Page also sorts correctly by the number of hotness stars now.

Favorites were fixed: The Favorites catsFavorites cats tab on Main Page works properly now. Also on mix pages the favorited categoeries are indicated by the heart icon in the category bar on top. See Help:Favorites.

Editing: The "Guess" feature for categories works now and the tracklist states icons change the category properly now:

Many smaller bugs were fixed so browsing should feel much more stable.

Update July 15th

Update July 12th 

We finally hit milestone 1... We have user account creation!

If you have an old username you'll need to register for it again. You can also pick a new one.

Feel free to start adding mixes right away. The Add Mix templates for categories are all working.

Your old favorites will not be lost. We're working on a tool to retrieve your old favorites in a more automated manner, even if your username changes. You can also start adding new favorites now, but don't rebuild your old favorites manually if it were a lot – wait until we update you here.

The Help section needs an update and a few features for browsing and editing are still missing. They're all tracked, but see Known issues below and let us know on Discord what you miss most right now.

Update July 3rd 

I want to be transparent about what will happen on this site:

• Only keeping the latest revision's of all pages from mixesdb.com - no revision history.
  • But we imported hotness, page views and creation dates of all the pages
• No forum - and no old forum posts
  • The old forum plugin isn't supported.
  • But we have Discord and it's so much more than just a forum! Join our server
• No comments and no old comments (yet)
  • Again the old comment plugin isn't supported. MediaWiki recommendation is to use the talk pages: mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Talk_pages
  • However I want to see if I can resurrect them in some way. Comments have a lot of useful information.
• No user accounts from the old site (See Why can't user accounts be transferred? below)

Discord

As you may have guessed: Discord is the best way to get in touch.

But it's much more than a forum and so much better for discussions than forum extensions or Reddit.

Give it a try. Creating an account is quick and simple!

Known issues

• Category pages:
  • When you are redirected to a category from search, the "Fresh mixes" are missing
• Some Explorer features have been disabled until fixed

Why can't user accounts be transferred?

Very simply data protection, GDPR, etc.

None of those users entrusted MixesDB with their email. mixesdb.com rightly didn't give it me and I didn't ask.

In addition the user database table structure has changed so much that's a huge project to even attempt to migrate!

I do have a list of the existing usernames. I also have access to the old database (with no emails, or personal data), in the future I will offer some tools to help people retrieve things like favourites and possibly resurrect their old account, but that will be after other core issues are fixed.
