So it ended up being a 30 this week.... I improvised when I realised I could get more in.... and handy as there are so many to pick. To be precise 2 step was pretty much essentially soul that would get played at blues parties as part of an overall reggae mix... the term then grew out of that and fused with boogie and became part of the wider rare groove movement... to me 2 step is a cross between beat ballads and rare groove with emphasis on the backbeat and certain percussive / Latin touches... the boogie feeling is there but that comes more into it with drum machines when Leroy Burgess made it his own. On this mix however I’ve added a boogie sprinkle to the 2 step shuffle for a special 30! Thinking about it these tracks have been part of my DJ sets since the beginnings .... you can always judge a good night on whether you’ve been able to drop a few in there!
