In August 1973, DJ Kool Herc DJ-ed at his sister's party, and accidentally invented hip hop. Katie Puckrik sits in for Mary Anne, and celebrates the fortieth anniversary of this mighty genre in the company of Herc himself, who will be explaining exactly how it all came to pass.

Also, Katie will confer with her listeners to select and spin some of the most seminal records from 40 years of hip hop, and dig in the BBC vaults for some legendary hip hop live session tracks.
