Notes & Tracklist
Affectionately titled "Work Bitch!" at the time, this tape is from late morning at Sound Factory (starting around 10:30am). The club was emptying out as Junior worked some sleazy disco before getting into the tracks on side B for a vogueing battle that started up by the speaker stack nearest the DJ booth. Among those in attendance: Jose Xtravaganza and the sadly missed Willie Ninja who passed away in 2006.
The DJ Tedd Patterson described this period at the Factory in a recent issue of Faith Fanzine (http://www.faithfanzine.com):
"'Throwing shade' was around long before the art of vogueing exploded from the balls and into the cities mainstream gay clubs, these "battles" would pre-empt break-dancing by decades but once again its style and exponents were pushed back into the margins. By the early mid 90s though, clubs such as the Sound Factory were awash with the children of the Ball scene dancing into Junior's torch, runwaying up and down invisible catwalks when the floor thinned out mid Sunday morning. "Junior was always legendary for serving up some fierce beats at the Factory, usually around mid morning he would play their favourite songs just for them to do there thing... you could see them all crawling out the woodwork to put on a show. During that time I believe the dancers influenced Junior's programming a lot, and almost every young gay dj that went to the factory was influenced by Junior's programming.
